Course Description
This course will focus on the foundations of mindfulness for practitioners and for clients. The workshop will cover four main areas: Foundations of Mindfulness Practices; using mindfulness for working with thoughts, beliefs, and emotions; using mindfulness in therapy practice; and Lovingkindness as a vehicle for integrating mindfulness into our lives.
Course Objectives
Students will learn… 1) proper postures that are conducive for mindfulness meditation. 2) various forms of mindfulness meditation practices (sitting, laying, walking, standing). 3) the language of sensations in our bodies and how to embrace as a vehicle for mindful exploration. 4) how to engage more fully with our thinking mind to from a place of compassion and curiosity. 5) how to approach painful emotions with tenderness and safety. 6) how to make mindfulness part of our day-to-day routines. 7) how to apply mindfulness skills that are imperative in the healing of trauma. 8) how to introduce mindfulness in their practices to new and existing clients and get clients buy in.

Meet Your Instructors Raymond Rodriguez LCSW-R, Rev. (he/him/his)
Raymond Rodriguez, LCSW-R, Rev. (he/him/his), is an Afro-Latino Licensed Clinical Social Worker (NY; LCSW; 077444-1) with over twenty years of experience working with community-based programs. He holds a master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University and is a trauma specialist assisting clients with complex psychological trauma and PTSD. In addition to private practice, he is the founder and clinical director of Aldea Counseling Services, a group psychotherapy practice in Harlem, NY, servicing primarily people of color. He has taught at Hostos Community College of the City University of New York, Columbia University School of Social Work, and Smith College School of Social Work and is currently on faculty at the Trauma Studies Center of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and the Integrative Trauma Certificate Program of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. Raymond is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is versed in other modalities including, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy. Raymond formerly served on the boards of the National Association of Puerto Rican and Hispanic Social Workers. His clinical interests include family therapy, working with immigrant clients, race-based oppression, LGBTQIA+ empowerment, spirituality, and working with marginalized communities in community-based mental health.
