Course Description
This training was created in celebration of Pride Month to help providers understand and support people of many identities with compassion and care. This introductory course outlines parts of the LGBTQIA+ culture, commonly used terms, the importance of allyship & the important role of the mental health provider. Participants will learn: 1) Learn more about the LGBTQIA+ culture as well as key terms and acronyms. 2) How to use inclusive language through pronouns & avoid misgendering. 3) Learn more about allyship and how to be an ally in and outside of the office. 4) Learn more about the role of the mental health provider in support of LGBTQIA+ clients.

Meet Your Instructors Cara Liguori, MHC-LP (She/Her)
Cara Liguori, MHC-LP holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Prescott College and a limited permit to practice in New York State. She is certified in Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME) and Somatic Movement Education (SME) from the School for BodyMind Centering® and is a Natural Dreamwork practitioner. She has completed EMDR trauma therapy training and is currently working toward becoming a certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor. Cara enjoys working with individuals of diverse ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, and racial/ethnic backgrounds. She values supporting people through major life transitions, especially when past traumas are keeping them stuck or looping in patterns they’d rather not repeat.

Jillian Martino CAT-LP (She/Her)
Jillian Martino, CAT-LP earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Art Therapy from Long Island University and is a Creative Arts Therapy–limited permit holder. During her training, she worked with adolescents and adults experiencing severe substance abuse and mental health challenges. She has also provided pro-bono therapy to veterans with PTSD and supported individuals experiencing homelessness. Jillian’s training as an art therapist provided a strong foundation in clinical skills, as well as tools to use creativity and art to explore issues that may feel too heavy to verbalize. She takes a holistic approach to therapy, integrating art, mind, body, and spirituality. She is also trained in EMDR, a trauma-focused modality that helps individuals reprocess stuck information and continue their healing journey.
