Course Objectives:
1. Participants will take away a foundational understanding on 3 pathways of adoption: foster care, private domestic adoption and international adoption and how to help their client choose a specific path and agency/attorney that best fits their needs. 2. Participants will learn assessment tools in order to guide a client in choosing what/if any path to parenting, and specifically adoption might be right for them. 3. Participants will understand clinical themes that relate to adoption and how to address them with clients. 4. Participants will be familiar with common challenges that present post-adoption and how to provide support and identify resources.

Meet Your Instructor
Christine Tangel is a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience working with children and families in New York City. She has provided direct service and supervision in various aspects of child welfare, including preventive services and foster care. Currently, Christine is the Director of the Pre & Post Adoption department at Spence-Chapin, where she supervises clinical services, home study assessments and community events. Christine provides direct therapeutic intervention for people struggling with trauma histories, relationship challenges, grief or questions about their identity, and facilitates trainings on adoption and permanency related themes.
